This was my second attempt at installing Visual Studio 2008 on Windows 7 and I ran into a little problem.

It failed when trying to install the Microsoft Document Explorer 2008. A quick check found the file in \WCU\DExplore of your installation media, and running the install manually solved that problem…

recently i downloaded VSTS 2008 Team Suite from MSDNAA website, i encountered the same problem about the document explorer. the error log file said that:
[05/31/09,14:27:50] Microsoft Document Explorer 2008: [2] f:\setup\..\wcu\dexplore\dexplore.exe could not be unpackaged because it is not a cabinet.

then i tried to run dexplore.exe directly from that directory, but it just flashed a command prompt box. everytime i do that it just do the same, then i took a screenshot, and it appears that the command prompt said that: “Program too big to fit in memory”

i have 2×512 MB of RAM. what happen? do you have any solution?
just FYI, i successfully installed VSTS 2008 Team Suite on my office computer about sometime ago, it just has 512 MB of RAM.

i searched everywhere about this issue, but their solution was just “try to download again using different download manager”
i can’t do that, i downloaded this copy of VSTS using the downloader from the MSDNAA website, and it’s the only way to download any software from that website.

i have tried to empty the TEMP folder, i have tried to copy that dexplore.exe to another drive, and i have tried to change my TEMP directory. i need help please…

I have the same problem. When I try to run dexplore.exe directly, I get the flashed command prompt box too. I have 3 GB of memory.

I have exactly the same problem and tried all the suggestions in vain. Looking at other forums, it wold appear that the world and his wife has the same problem.

Does anybody out there have a solution or has Microsoft stopped being in denial about this serious issue and fixed it?
